What is NAS?

Neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) occurs when a newborn baby experiences withdrawal symptoms after being exposed to certain substances, most commonly opioids, while in the womb. Symptoms can include excessive crying, irritability, tremors, sleep difficulties, feeding problems, vomiting, diarrhea, and, in some cases, breathing difficulties or seizures.

At Brigid’s Path, we are leading the nation in specialized care for these babies and their families. We believe in supportive care, such as swaddling, a calm environment, an immediate response to their needs. We know that babies who receive care tailored to their needs in their earliest days will thrive and have better long-term outcomes.

We can’t do this essential work without caring people like you. Your support means our clinical team has everything they need to care for our babies and their moms. You will make the difference for a baby with NAS so they can have a brighter, healthier future.

What Impact Can Your Donation Make?

A Monthly Donation adds you to the ranks of our Circle of Hope Giving Society, a community of caring people who provide a constant flow of support to sustain the life-changing work of Brigid’s Path.

$25 can help supply our babies with diaper rash ointment for a month. Babies with NAS often have sore bottoms, so we work very hard to keep them clean, dry, and comfy!

$50 can provide 10 bottles so we can keep little tummies full and help babies grow healthy and strong.

$100 could buy as many as 300 newborn size diapers. We use an average of 10 diapers per baby, per day – your support can keep a baby clean and healthy for a whole month!

$250 can supply our nursery with infant-size medicine syringes for 6 months. Tiny bodies need tiny doses of medication!

$500 powers our laundry facilities for a year! Our washing machines never stop, keeping our little ones in fresh, clean clothes and bedding.

$1,000 can provide baby carriers for 20 babies, and allow their parent to continue baby-wearing at home after discharge. This is proven to improve baby’s physical and mental health, as well as support sobriety for moms in recovery.
