Before waiving or reducing fees for services, Brigid’s Path shall make all reasonable efforts to collect appropriate reimbursement for its services without application of any discount when providing health services to persons with commercial health insurance. Out-of-pocket costs for all medically necessary services provided by Brigid’s Path are eligible for financial assistance, except if a client’s insurance policy prohibits Brigid’s Path from providing financial assistance.

All clients who wish to be considered for financial assistance shall complete a Financial Assistance Application. Once a client submits a complete application for Financial Assistance, Brigid’s Path shall review the application and make and document its eligibility determination in a timely manner. Only clients who complete the application process may be considered for financial assistance.

1. The applicable services must be medically necessary;
2. The client must reside in Ohio; and
3. The client must complete and submit a complete copy of Brigid’s Path’s Financial Assistance Application and furnish any additional information reasonably requested by Brigid’s Path to determine eligibility.

Brigid’s Path shall determine the client’s eligibility for coverage under commercial insurance or public health insurance as part of its eligibility determination. If determined to be eligible for commercial insurance or public health insurance, then the client must apply for commercial insurance coverage or public health insurance and provide Brigid’s Path with documentation demonstrating that such applications have been submitted before being found eligible for financial assistance.

After the determination is made that the client is eligible for Financial Assistance, Sliding Fee Discounts will be applicable for one (1) year after the determination is made. After one (1) year, clients must re-apply for Financial Assistance and Sliding Fee Discounts.

Brigid’s Path shall offer a Sliding Fee Discount Program to clients who are eligible for Financial Assistance and are unable to pay for their services in full. In determining whether a client qualifies for a Sliding Fee Discount, other sources of payment the client has, or may eligible for, shall be considered. Coinsurance, co-payments, and client share of cost amounts may not be waived or discounted without a demonstration of need nor if a client’s insurance policy prohibits it.

Discounts shall be based on financial need. Financial need will be determined in accordance with procedures that involve an individual assessment of financial need, and take into account the client’s available income, household size, and all other financial resources available to the client. Income includes but is not limited to: gross wages; salaries; income from business and self-employment; unemployment compensation; workers’ compensation; Social Security; Supplemental Security Income; public assistance; veterans’ payments; and pension or retirement income.

The Federal Poverty Guidelines are used in creating and annually updating the Sliding Fee Schedule to determine eligibility. Clients with incomes at or below 100% of poverty will receive a full discount on services. Clients with incomes above 100% of poverty, but at or below 400% of poverty, will be charged a nominal fee according to Brigid’s Path’s Sliding Fee Schedule. Clients with incomes above 400% of poverty will not receive a discount.
